Search Madison County Inmates

The Madison County inmate search begins with the official Sheriff’s jail roster for people booked or held in local custody. The Madison County jail roster includes current and released views, name search, booking details, charge summaries, bonds, and holds. It does not cover every person serving a state prison sentence. Those records belong to Alabama’s corrections system. Search for Madison County inmates by first deciding whether the person is in county jail or state prison, then use the correct official lookup. Jail rules also govern bond, custody notice, mail, commissary, messaging, phone calls, property, and remote visits.

Madison County Inmate Roster

The Madison County Sheriff’s inmate roster is the free official lookup for local jail custody. It displays a live count and supports Name, Date, Current, and Released views. Users can sort bookings from newest to oldest or oldest to newest, search by name, show all entries, move through pages, and open a View Profile link. The official research did not state a fixed update interval, so current status should be confirmed with jail booking information when timing matters.

A roster entry is a custody and booking record, not a finding of guilt. Charges may be pending, changed, dismissed, or resolved later in court.

Use the Madison County Roster

Start with the person’s name and likely custody status. The roster can show all results, which helps when spelling is uncertain, and its Current and Released views separate present detention from recent release listings.

  1. Open the official Sheriff’s roster and choose Current, Released, Name, or Date.
  2. Enter a name, or use Show All when the exact spelling is unknown.
  3. Change the sort order to compare recent and older bookings.
  4. Review the name, booking number, booking time, charge summary, bond, and holds.
  5. Select View Profile for available detail, then call 256-519-4800 when immediate custody confirmation is needed.

The roster may shorten several allegations behind a “+ more description” label. Use the court case record for filed charges and later case outcomes. The jail does not determine release dates and does not provide release dates to the public.

Madison County Booking and Bond

Local custody can arise from county felony or misdemeanor charges, Huntsville city matters, Madison city cases, or other holds. Felony warrants through the Madison County Magistrate Office may take up to 48 hours after booking. After the contract is received, an inmate in a District Court case receives a 72-hour hearing to learn the charges and bond. This hearing detail applies only to District Court cases.

Huntsville misdemeanor bonds can be posted with the City of Huntsville magistrate 24 hours a day; call 256-427-7817. Madison city misdemeanor bonds use the City of Madison magistrate Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, excluding holidays; call 256-772-5617. County misdemeanor and felony bonds use the District Court Clerk’s Office in courthouse Room 200, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, excluding holidays; call 256-532-3373. Online bond channels include AlaPay, CashBondOnline, and 1-888-726-6301. The Sheriff does not process property bonds.

County Jail Versus ADOC Search

The Madison County roster covers people booked or held locally, including pretrial detainees, city and misdemeanor inmates, felony defendants awaiting court action, and some locally sentenced inmates. A person transferred to the Alabama Department of Corrections is not covered as a state-prison inmate. Use the ADOC inmate search for sentenced state-prison custody.

VINE adds a notification channel rather than a second roster. Victims can register through VINELink or call 877-846-3425 for custody-status changes and criminal case information. The service operates 24 hours a day. Jail staff do not make notification calls, so the person seeking alerts must register.

The Sheriff’s official site also confirms a mobile app, but its visible app page does not identify the available features. Do not assume the app includes an inmate lookup, custody alert, or other app-only roster tool without confirmation from an official store listing.

Municipal custody needs another routing check. Huntsville city inmates who do not bond have city court on the next business day. Madison city inmates may have court on Tuesday at the jail or Thursday at the Madison Municipal building, depending on the charge. A municipal-sentenced inmate has 14 days to file an appeal, which must be handwritten and mailed to Municipal Court. These court schedules do not change which jail roster lists the booking, but they do change which clerk or magistrate can answer case and bond questions.

Madison County Inmate Visits

General visits are remote, monitored, and recorded. An inmate must be held for 30 days before visitation is allowed. Visitors schedule through NCIC up to 48 hours before the visit and must create an approved account with a clear government ID image. Slots are first come, first served, and each inmate may receive up to three visits per day. Remote visits cost $0.30 per minute plus tax.

Facial detection is enabled, and a visit may end when no face is detected, when a person is driving, or for security reasons. A housing move can cancel a visit when no matching slot is open. Attorneys may use face-to-face or video visits with current clients after presenting valid government ID and a current Alabama State Bar card.

Madison County Inmate Mail

Address personal mail with the inmate’s first and last name, booking number, “Madison County Jail,” PO Box 2047, Huntsville, AL 35804, plus a valid return address. The jail digitizes letters, cards, photographs, and similar personal mail for delivery on housing kiosks. Original personal mail is held only seven days so the inmate can name someone to retrieve it. Unclaimed originals are then discarded.

All incoming and outgoing mail may be searched. Books must be new, softback, and shipped directly by a mainstream publisher or bookstore. An inmate may possess one book, one magazine, three newspapers, and one Bible or Koran. The rules reject currency, checks, money orders, phone cards, personal packages, stickers, glitter, Polaroid or oversized photos, identity documents, maps, and laminated materials. Medication, eyeglasses, or contacts may be dropped off from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily when approved.

Madison County Commissary Funds

Funds may be added at the lobby kiosk, through Inmate Canteen online, or by phone at 706-298-4974. A cash kiosk deposit costs $3.00. Kiosk credit-card and web deposits cost 10 percent of the deposit with a $3.25 minimum. Credit-card deposits are limited to $150 per transaction and $500 over 30 days, including fees. Online carepacks add $4.95 shipping and an 11 percent processing charge, with a $75 weekly carepack maximum per inmate.

There are no refunds. Purchased orders held after release remain available for five business days at Kimble’s Commissary Office, Room 120, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, except holidays.

Family may pick up an inmate’s released property at any hour, seven days a week, with valid identification. Most stored property is kept for 30 days. These property rules are separate from commissary balances and held carepack orders.

State inmates leaving Madison County for Kilby Correctional may take only limited items: legal mail, white commissary shoes, ten pictures, five stamps, and five envelopes. This transfer rule is one more reason to distinguish local jail custody from the later ADOC prison record.

Secure messages cost $0.25 each plus tax. They cannot include photographs or attachments, require an approved account, and are reviewed by the facility.

Before the first message can be read, NCIC requires a clear government ID image and facility approval. Approvals occur during business hours Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Messages can be restricted after review, and the service does not issue refunds. These controls are separate from call funding, remote-visit scheduling, and money placed in an inmate’s commissary account.
